NEW! Series DFX Flow Meter
Series
DFX Ultrasonic Doppler Flow Meters measure flow of liquids that contain
useful sonic reflectors1 suspended
within the liquid. The DFX flow meter operates by transmitting an ultrasonic
sound from its transmitting transducer through the pipe wall into the
flowing liquid. The sound will be reflected by the the reflectors
and recorded by the receiving transducer. The clamp-on style transducer is also available in small pipe and high
temperature options. The DFX also offers an insertion probe transducer for
pipe systems that do not permit ultrasound penetration.
The Series DFX replaces the 601, 901, and 770 models; using more
advanced technology for easier installation and more reliable readings
on a wide range of liquid and reflector conditions. Unlike
other Doppler technologies, the Series DFX is relatively insensitive to
VFDs and other ultrasonic noises.

Useful sonic reflectors will meet the following criteria:
- Maintains a sonic impedance (sound
speed difference) different from the fluid
- Contains some particles large enough to cause
longitudinal reflection - particles larger than 35 micron
- Longitudinal reflection has sufficient energy
to overcome the Rayleigh (energy wasting) scattering caused by smaller
particles
- Travels at the same velocity as the fluid

Series UFX Hand-held
Flow Meter
Series UFX Doppler Flow Meters provide accurate and reliable flow velocity
assessments in closed pipe, liquid systems. UFX requires that the liquid
be either solids-bearing or aerated at a minimum of 100 ppm. The product
utilizes a single, hand-held transducer which is placed on the outside of
metal or plastic pipe. Within seconds after placing the transducer, the
large LCD will provide a velocity reading in either FPS (feet per second) or
MPS (meters per second). The UFX comes with a flow calculator/slide
chart for conversion of velocity measurements to popular volumetric
measurements.
Dynasonics offers a comprehensive line of Doppler flow meters, meeting a variety of
specific application requirements. The Series DUFX, DFX, and D902 are clamp-on,
non-invasive flow meters that require a good acoustical path between the outside of the
pipe and the liquid inside. In some instances, such as non-saturated concrete
pressure pipe and glass reinforced fiberglass pipe, ultrasonic energy will not readily
pass. For these installations, Dynasonics offers the DP7 Insertion
doppler probe (see DFX specification data sheet below).
The Doppler meters on this page are intended for applications where suspended solids or aeration
(bubbles) are always present and relatively homogeneous in the liquid,
typically 100 ppm of 100 micron size. If the liquid
is at times cleaner or non-aerated, approximately 25 ppm of 30 micron
size, we suggest reviewing our D902
Enhanced Doppler Flow Meters, or
for clean liquids see our Transit Time Flow Meters. For additional application information, please see
our Ultrasonic Selection Guide.
